Community Guidelines

NoQu is founded on Christian and American Constitutional beliefs and rights.

With these things combined, we aim to keep our community clean and respectful. To help us with this, remember to follow the below guidelines.

We have one rule.

It is to show respect.

Respect to the staff, respect to your fellow writers, respect to God, and even respect to yourself.

Doing this will make our community strong, friendly, reliable, comfortable, and most of all, welcoming.

From that rule comes these guidelines.

Do not use derogatory terms/words and obscenities.

Derogatory terms and words as well as extreme obscenities are not permitted on our forums. If you are using these words/terms in your writing, that is understandable but you are still to censer/redact those terms or at the very least give a content warning.

Do not post explicit and inappropriate content.

Sharing videos, posts, excerpts, photos, etc., of explicit and inappropriate content, particularly of the sexual variety (ew), will not be permitted on this platform.

Keep your criticism constructive, and refrain from giving it unless it is requested.

Criticism and spell checks are great things - when they're asked for. When they aren't, it's kind of like biting into a cookie that you think is chocolate chip and finding it to be raisin instead.

That is to say, it can be depressing, debilitating, discouraging, and make you die a little inside.

If someone asks for criticism, go right ahead and give it. But remember to make sure it is constructive.

Refrain from debating.

Debates can be very constructive and interesting things when they're done right. However, they usually aren't done right and result in a blood bath (the carpet in the library is still stained red). So we ask that instead of debating, you have discussions

The difference:

Debating is arguing a point and trying to prove that point to be the correct or accurate one in the debate.

Discussing is having a conversation about a topic and actively listening and considering what the other person(s) have to say on said topic. The main goal of a discussion is to learn and gain understanding about another person or viewpoint.

The former doesn't really have a place in a constructive, friendly, and respectful community of writers.

The latter absolutely does.

If a discussion starts turning into a debate or argument, show respect to your community and yourself by politely walking away from it.

Treat others as you would like to be treated

If you would like interactions on your posts, interact with others. If you would like encouragement, encourage others. If you would like support, support others. If you would like to be respected, respect others.

Please Note

We hope you will note that, though we discourage debates and arguments, we encourage civil and constructive discussions. This can be regarding anything from books to religion and politics.

We specifically mention this point because while NoQu was made due to other writing programs getting involved in politics, and will thus not engage in politics as an organization beyond being founded on Constitutional rights, this does not mean individuals on our platform are to refrain from these discussions. (So long as said discussions remain respectful and constructive.)

Though we do encourage you to stay on-topic, and remember that at the end of the day we're all writers, and that the point of our community is to gather as such.

Thank you for being a respectful member of the Qummunity!
