Official Matters

The Program

Q: What is NoQu?

A: NoQu is an annual writing challenge taking place during the month of November. The challenge is to write 49,999 words or more within 29 days, 1,439 minutes, and 59 seconds starting at midnight on November 1st.

Q: What does "NoQuWriCo" stand for?

A: "NoQuWriCo" stands for "Novel Quest Writing Community,"

Q: What is NoQu's mission statement?

A: You can read more about this on our "About NoQu" page, but it is in short that we strive to create a respectful and God-honoring program and community for writers that doesn't bring politics and real-world drama into the mix.

Q: Who is NoQu for?

A: NoQu is for any writer thirteen or older who will be respectful in our community.

Q: Do I have to leave other writing programs to participate in NoQu?

A: Of course not! NoQu has a lot of appreciation for our fellow writing programs and would not require you to leave any in order to participate.

Our goal is not necessarily to replace the programs that members of our team didn't fit into, but to add another program into the mix for people who specifically want a non-political organization to be a part of.

Account Information

Q: Why does NoQu ask for my birthdate on my profile/account page?

A: We require that all members give their birthdate so that we can make sure our members are all thirteen years of age or older.

Your birthdate will not be visible to any other users on the NoQu website.

Q: Why does NoQu ask for my email address?

A: We ask for your email address so that you can receive email-notifications for the forums if you so choose (you can do this by clicking the little bell on the forum page).

Entering your email address to make an account does not sign you up for our monthly news letter, so if you are wanting to receive those emails you will need to subscribe to them directly. (This can be done on our "News Letter" page under "About NoQu.")

Q: Will NoQu share or sell my information?

A: Nope! The private information you share with us stays private and will only be used for things such as notifications and ensuring that you are the proper age for joining the Qummunity (as mentioned above).

Website

Q: I am experiencing an issue with the NoQu website. Where do I report this?

A: If you have found some technical issue with our website, you can tell us on the "Technical Difficulties Report" thread in the "NoQu Official" section of our forums.

Qummunity

General

Q: What is the "Qummunity?"

A: The "Qummunity" is the NoQu community, the "Qu" coming from the the second half of "NoQu" (we like wordplays and fun names here).

Q: What are the "QuTs/Quties?"

A: The QuTs are writers that are part of the Qummunity, and the name stands for "Quite Typers." It is pronounced like "cuties."

We are aware that some people may not like being called "cute." For you, we have the alternative titles of "NoQuQuT," or "NoQuT," for "Not Quite QuT" implying that you are "not quite cute." But that's a mouthful, so we encourage you to just accept the cuteness and call yourself a "QuT." It'll save you time.

(Credit for these fabulous titles are due to our friend Geata.)

Q: Is the Qummunity year-round?

A: It is indeed! Our forums are open throughout the year, though individual threads may lose some activity in the off-seasons while others remain frequented.

Q: How do I join the Qummunity?

A: To join the Qummunity and thus gain access to posting on our forums, look under the Qummunity tab on the white bar at the top of the screen. Then click the "Sign In+Log In" page.

Or, you can just click here.

Bookclub

Q: What is the Qumunity bookclub?

A: The Qummunity bookclub is a club in which humans (and perhaps dragons, though none have shown interest so far) gather together to read together and to discuss books.

The bookclub is hosted via the official Qummunity bookclub thread in our "General Hangout" category, and is presently hosted by Edna Pellen.

Q: What kinds of books does the Qummunity bookclub read?

A: The bookclub reads all manners of books, MG-adult and of any genre. We do have a content guide (also on the bookclub's thread) which states that a book with explicitly inappropriate content and/or extreme language cannot be selected.

Content warnings will be given for each book chosen, as well.

Q: How are the books chosen?

A: Three books are chosen by the host and the Qummunity then votes on which of the three they would like to read.

If you have a specific request to be included among those three, you may suggest it, but there is no gaurantee that it will be added to the three nominees.

Contests and Giveaways

Q: What kind of contests will NoQu run?

A: NoQu will run all sorts of contests, mostly to do with writing (such as flash fictions and short stories).

Q: What kinds of giveaways will NoQu run?

A: Our giveaways will likely revolve around books, especially indie books, but we may also giveaway merch once we have the merch to give.

Q: How will I know when contests and giveaways are running?

A: We will announce contests and giveaways on our blog, in our newsletter, and on our forums. These will also provide you with instructions for entering them.

Quntribute to the Qummunity

(Sorry-not-sorry if our wordplays are getting to be annoying.)

Q: How can I contribute to NoQu and its community?

A: We are so glad you're interested in contributing! Here's some potential ways you can do that:

  • Take part in Qummunity events and programs (such as the bookclub)

  • Spread the word about NoQu

  • Fill volunteer spots when they're open

Q: What are the requirements for volunteering?

A: This depends on the position(s) that are open at the time you choose to volunteer, but here are the three requirements that go for all of them:

- Dedication

If you need to pull out of volunteering, that is alright, but for as long as you are a volunteer you must be dedicated to filling the role and meeting its specific requirements. Make sure you truly have the ability to keep up with whatever role you are considering before asking to fill that position.

- Absolute compliance with the rule and guidelines

You need to follow our rule and guidelines. Whatever position we have open at the time will always be directly linked to the NoQu team and thus its reputation.

Given we are open about our foundation being that of Christianity and the American Constitution, it is important that all volunteers represent that well whether they themselves are Christians and/or Americans or not.

- Willingness to work with others and follow directions

All official aspects of NoQu rely heavily on being able to communicate and work with others well and to receive and follow directions.

Q: How will I know when volunteer positions are open?

A: There will be a post made on the "Volunteer Opportunities" thread under the Official NoQu forum category detailing the open position and its requirements, so keep your eye out for that.
