Ambience: Your Writing Office
"Some human memories and tearful lore,
Render him terrorless: his name’s 'No More.'
He is the corporate Silence: dread him not!
No power hath he of evil in himself…"
-Silence, Edgar Allen Poe
You've been struggling to write for ages it seems. The creative juices that used to flow so easily have just been dry. But you know you have to write. Your story just seems trapped! It's begging to break out, but somehow you've lost the key.
Until, that is, a strange letter appears in your mailbox one day, in an envelope sealed with wax. “To Whom it Most Concerns,” reads the salutation. The handwriting is familiar somehow as it spreads across the cream parchment.
Prompt: Put some sort of note or letter in your story. Bonus points if it's sent by someone anonymous.
“Enclosed are the instructions for your arrival to Inkhouse. Don't concern yourself with cost. That's all been attended to. All you need worry about is simply writing. I do believe you'll find the company to be aligned with that same purpose.
“Signed, The Host.”
You turn the letter over. A series of directions in neat lines. A picture of a dark-sided house of classic design. “Inkhouse Writer's Retreat,” it's labeled. “November 1st - November 30th” is its subline. You feel suddenly swept with a strange knowledge that you will most certainly be there.
Challenge: Write for 10 minutes. Multiply whatever your word count in those ten minutes is by 30 and write the new number as fast as you can.
Question: What is the primary conflict in your story?
